Shimano's full range of Yumeya upgrades for their XTR groupset hit BikeRadar HQ today and we’ve been dribbling over the carbon and titanium spangly bits ever since.

The Yumeya – Japanese for ‘Dream Workshop’ – kit defies any talk of credit crunch and recession, allowing you to shift a few grams and add wow factor to your machine at a total cost of £823.85.

Claimed weight savings go like this: carbon rear derailleur plates save 11g over XTR, titanium cassette sprockets save 15g for a set of 17/20T, titanium bolts shave off 25g for the full set, and the Yumeya chain cuts off 10g more.

What Mountain Bike magazine’s Justin Loretz will be slapping the kit onto his Tomac hardtail soon and putting it to the test. Check out issue 98 of What Mountain Bike for the lowdown.

  • Absolutely stupidly crazy! Who the hell would buy any of that???? You could save 10g by shaving your hair off!

  • Hehe what a pathetic attempt to hit the "bling" market, way way way to expensive, you could buy all new gear system for that kind of money

  • lovely gear but gold isnt gonna go with anything on my bike , and its way ,way too expensive

  • i think you're missing the point slightly. its supposed to be the ultimnate upgrade to the ultimate drivetrain. racers are probalby the main target looking to shed a few grmas, as well as overly rich people who have moe money than sense and want the latest bling.

    would still love some though!

  • one of my bikes is a trek elite 9.9 carbon full xtr drivetrain .carbon seatpin ,stem reba world cups etc etc .while i love my blingy bits and always looking for the latest carbon upgrades i would have to have mad cows disease to pay what they want for this gear !!!

  • I agree with clarkson, go to any mountain bike car park on a sunday morning and you can find somebody who can afford XTR, the whole point of this range (and where Shimano have followed the others) is to have a product that most people can't afford, to have a product where when you see it you go "oh my good" + have you seen the price of XTR mechs anyway these days

  • me:10 grams you say? how much faster will that make me go?

    store:not very.

    me: i see.

  • go to the loo for a poo that will save some weight lol

  • Most of those parts you can't even see and aren't the shifter clamps alreay alloy? These are just anodised gold FFS! Also the XTR shadow mechs alreay have carbon arms why need one with a new logo?

    Silly money, silly bits.

  • aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh £800 if i could talk to shimmy, i'd say , "dont even go there."

some one said it was for racers on the ultimate drive train and i agree but the thing is the majority will be sponsored and wont pay for it . thats left up to the rest of us mortals to buy the kit and pay for it, (indirectly) for them.

id rather sell a kidney to lose 10 times as much weight and get paid in the process.

  • Only the stuck up loaded people would think about this plus i reckon these are gonna break if put them to a test!!

  • Yeh.. but they come in nice boxes :-)

  • Even if I was stupidly rich I don't even think I would bother with this!

  • ALL THE GEAR & NO IDEA PARTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • £800 isn't really a huge amount of money, if you've got it and can't think of anything better to do with it why not spend it on something you enjoy doing!

If you haven't got the money? Ain't really an issue is it? Shave your head and have a shit!

  • Bought a yumeya chain as it was only £10 more than the XTR/Dura-ace one that needed replacing (after 2 years of being ridden 3 times a week) The chain twisted after 1 ride. lack of weight comes at a price - lack of durability. dont bother!
