Lance Armstrong to race Tour de France
Lance Armstrong has announced his intention to race the 2009 Tour de France, according to his Twitter posting minutes ago.
"I'm committed to riding for the best guy," Armstrong said Monday, parroting remarks he's said the past month or so. Triple Grand Tour winner and Astana team-mate Alberto Contador has targeted the 2009 Tour de France as his primary goal, while Armstrong has set his sights on the Giro d'Italia. Armstrong sees no problem in playing a supporting role on a team that includes 2007 Tour winner Contador and podium finishers Levi Leipheimer and Andreas Klöden.
"We'll abide by the same code that I do: cycling is team sport, while we'd all like to win," Armstrong told the Associated Press in a telephone interview from Tenerife in the Canary Islands where the Astana team is training.

Good point! He tells us he's planning to Twitter all season long, so I'd recommend he keeps his hands on the bars and figures out another way to use his Blackberry, eh? Wouldn't want to crash into Sir Lancelot.

I wonder if Lance can win without issuing less than 7 press releases a week ?

He sure likes to be the centre of attention.
Maybe he'll get more than he bargained for

Lance will win the 2009 Tour de France. Lance will win the '09 Giro. Yes, Lance has an Ego bigger than life. And personally, I don't care for Lance Armstrong's attitude away from cycling, however, come May 1st of this year, Lance, without question, will be the best cyclist in the world all the way to August 1st. Why? Because racing is 90% mental and he owns that world. Nobody, nobody has what he has...nobody. Contador will just have to sit back and watch the epic event unfold from behind. IT will be historic and will captivate the globe.

ya, Merivel, its true, Contador will be another Beloki on his best day. Lance and Jan Ullrich were just 2 steps above and beyond the rest of the world. Lance can do it again. He will suffer on the VENTOUX. But the time he gains in the time trials will save him.

I was really surprised to see Contador stick around. Especially after Levi attacked him in the time trial at the end of the VUELTA. Now he has to deal with Lance too. Its the one thing in this whole story that makes me think Lance is just going to be a Livestrong Pace car this year all together. I hope he kicks but in the first time trial of the season. He is in shape so, it should be game on early for Lance.
