Q: You can't get anywhere in cycle sport without 100 per cent commitment can you?

A: I don't think so. Now I manage Team MBUK/SCOTT I keep an eye on the up and coming riders. I see Juniors who don't want it enough, somehow. They win a few races and think they are owed the world and they don't appreciate stuff when they get it.

They don't want it enough. They don't want to win enough. They don't want to do well enough. They're scruffy and disorganised and they've had everything far too easy.

The computer age gives them everything instantly, but when it comes to cycling you have to work at it a couple of years before you get anywhere. Trouble is a lot of them haven't got the patience or the commitment to put into it. You see a lot who do good while they're young riders, but when they get to 18 they go the way of the pint and the pussy and you never see them again...
