Memory Map launch iPhone App

Memory Map have launched an iPhone App which will give cyclists access to the company’s digital mapping including Ordnance Survey's Explorer 1:25,000 and Landranger 1:50,000 maps.

Costing £19.99, the Memory-Map App links to the iPhone’s in-built GPS to give real time positioning, and even when you’re out of reception area all the maps are stored locally so there’s no need for a constant signal.

A trip computer records speed, average speed, distance and travel/moving time too. Once you’ve ridden a route, you can upload it along with waypoints and email GPX routes and tracklogs directly from the phone. Additional mapping displaying, for example, the National Cycle Network will be available too.

Dave Evans at Memory Map said: “We know from our customers that there is a real need for an iPhone App. Having topo maps on your iPhone and being able to follow routes or plot positions when out is pretty useful.

"As the maps are stored on the phone there’s no waiting for streaming or expensive data charges if you’re overseas (like riding in the Alps). The App comes with mapping and existing Memory-Map users can use their existing V5 mapping. It really has something for everyone.”

  • You don`t actually get the maps you just get the oppurtunity to buy the maps.

  • I use trails all the time and whilst it is paid for it's very very good (and super cheap). You can also select an area that you would like to download to the phone for offline mapping.

  • NOT FOR MAC USERS, UNLESS YOU HAVE WINDOWS INSTALLED.
