Midlands cross-country series returns

New venues in an extended series

After the success of a newly resurrected Cross Country series in the Midlands last year, for 2008 the series is growing to three rounds and spreading its wings to incorporate three different venues.

Round one will be held at Hanchurch Woods situated to the south west of Stoke-on-Trent and minutes from junction 15 of the M6. It will take place on March 30, two weeks before the first National Points Series Cross-Country and will be an ideal tune-up before the big races in the summer and a chance to get ranking points on the board nice and early.

Round two on May 25 sees a return to a classic venue: Cannock Chase to the North of Birmingham with its big climbs, big descents and big berms.

The third round visits Sherwood Pines, the most popular location for mountain biking in the East Midlands, for the series final and championships at the height of summer.

There are several race categories to choose from based on ability (Fun – Elite) and also based on age (12 upwards). At round three there will also be racing the under-12s and under-10s, which will be free to enter. There is no need to pre-enter these races, which will be held just before the morning race, just turn up on the day and sign the little ‘uns up.

Round  three will incorporate the Midlands Champs. This round is still open to riders from any part of the UK although riders residing at an address with a Midlands postcode will be additionally eligible to contest for the title of Midlands Champ 2008.
