Mountain bike racer designs bicycle shed

In 2006 professional cross-country mountain bike racer Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (Subaru-Gary Fisher) designed and built a shed in his backyard to contain his significant collection of mountain bikes, setting off a chain reaction among friends that has expanded into a commercial business called Studio Shed.  

Immediately inspired, Studio Shed co-founder Mike Koenig built a similar space in early 2007, adding a few refinements to Jeremy's original design.

"Studio Shed grew out of our need to accommodate our outdoor lifestyle in Boulder, Colorado, without compromising what we like about living small and living smart," Koenig added. "Finally, in 2008, we've joined together to create Studio Shed, a prefabricated item that anyone can purchase."

Koenig is founder and CEO of The Student Planner, a manufacturer of high school planners and calendars. He is also the co-founder of the Tokyo Joe's mountain bike team.

"For the past three months we have put the finishing touches on a business we've envisioned for over two years," Horgan-Kobelsk said. "After building the final prototypes, negotiating production details, and of course conducting plenty of meetings via mountain bike, our vision is now a reality."

The business partners turned to Boulder-based Fuentes Design in turning Horgan-Kobelski's original Studio Shed concept into a completely finished prefabricated product.

"With the technical expertise of Fuentes Design, we've created one of the easiest and most affordable ways to gain a little extra space here in Boulder or beyond," Horgan-Kobelski added.
