The first event is on 19 April, followed by races on 4, 17 and 31 May. A second series is planned for the end of the summer.

Paul McKeown, chairman of Brownbacks, said: “Although mountain biking locally is very popular and there are numerous small groups of mountain bikers who meet socially to ride local trails, there is no outlet for the competitive side of the sport. Due to Lancashire County Council’s investment in the fantastic trails at Lee Quarry... we saw the opportunity to develop a race series as a community activity."

The quarry has 4.5km of trails, consisting of a mix of red and black routes. Plans are being made to develop the trails further.
