PIC BY TDWSPORT.COM Slovenia's Uros Murn won the opening stage of Semana Catalana in Lloret this afternoon. The Phonak rider took the bunch sprint that decided the stage after long-time breakaway Luis Perez (Relax-Fuenlabrada) was caught inside the final 5km. Fassa Bortolo's Claudio Corioni was second, and Euskaltel's Mikel Artetxe third. Perez's escape started after 15km and the Relax rider quickly built an advantage of more than 12 minutes. However, his long solo effort was thwarted when he started to run out of steam on the first-cat Sant Grau climb late in the stage. Tomorrow's stage takes the race 169km to another resort town, Empuriabrava, crossing four mountains on route, the last of them a first-cat hill.
