New MRP G2 combined chain guide and bashguard

MRP have launched their new G2 Chain Guide at this year's Crankworx. For 2008 it's out with the rollers and in with the plates. The G2 will be the first model to go into production utilizing MRP's patented integrated chainguide/bash guard.

MRP have launched their new G2 Chain Guide at this year's Crankworx. For 2008 it's out with the rollers and in with the plates. The G2 will be the first model to go into production utilizing MRP's patented integrated chainguide/bash guard.

Compared to other MRP guides the most noticeable difference on the new G2 is its lack of visible rollers. The new design uses a guide with a sealed bearing pulley wheel that is integrated onto a replaceable bashguard. It's a simple and incredibly light system. MRP are claiming a weight of 260g, their System 3 carbon guide alone weighs 255g.
The bashguard section lies 2mm inboard of the chainring and gives the same protection as a regular bashring. Combining the duties of skip plate and bashring onto a dedicated carrier rather than fixing it to the crank also transfers impact forces away form the crank and bottom bracket. So hopefully no more bent chainrings and spiders. The design of the skid plate also protects the lower chainguide to keep it out of harms way.
The open structure of the G2 also makes it easier to set up and adjust. Once the carrier is in place the guide can be adjusted from the front face and the two sections of 5mm bashguard are held in place either side of the carrier with chainring bolts.
