Lance Armstrong has a newborn son. The seven-time Tour de France winner posted a picture on his Twitter page today with the caption: "Wassup, world? My name is Max Armstrong and I just arrived. My Mommy is healthy and so am I!"
The picture shows the infant – who weighs 7lb 5oz, according to People magazine's online edition – on his mother's hospital bed with a hat on his head and his tongue sticking out.
Max is Armstrong's first child with his girlfriend Anna Hansen. The 37-year-old cycling star has three children with his ex-wife Kristin – a son, Luke, nine, and twin girls Isabella and Grace, seven. They were conceived through in vitro fertilisation using sperm frozen before Armstrong had chemotherapy for testicular cancer.
In other Armstrong news, Lance's team, Astana, have now provided financial guarantees to the International Cycling Union (UCI). The UCI had threatened to rescind the team's Pro-Tour competition licence after wages were reportedly not paid for two months.
Now Astana can carry on, starting with the Tour of Luxembourg. The team last month publicised their financial dispute when they started the Giro d'Italia's seventh stage with new shirts and the sponsor's name virtually blocked out.
