New trail opens in Scottish highlands
Nevis Red route (Kenny Ferguson)
A new mountain bike trail has opened in the Scottish Highlands just north of Fort William, close to the World Cup downhill track.
Aimed at cross-country riders wanting a downhill experience, the Nevis Red route is 5.5km in length with about 550m of descent, and shares the same gondola uplift as the downhill track.
The gondola leaves from the Nevis Range car park (off the A82 about 7 miles north of Fort William) from 10.15am - 3.45pm and costs £11.50 for an adult single trip or £25 for a day pass, and £7.75 or £17 for riders aged 12 to 17 years (minimum age to ride the red graded Nevis Red trail is 12).
Both gondola-accessed trails are open every day until Sunday 13 September this year, other than certain race, maintenance and bad weather days, so check ahead before making a journey there.
