PICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE Thomas Voeckler's brave performance in hanging on to the yellow jersey for nine days has earned him selection for the French Olympic team. French technical director Patrick Cluzaud and directeur sportif Fred Moncassin also named Laurent Brochard, Christophe Moreau, Richard Virenque and Sylvain Chavanel for the team. Cluzaud told L'Equipe his only regret was not being able to select Jrme Pineau as well. "The last place was between Chavanel and Pineau, and they are very close to one other in terms of form at the moment," said Cluzaud. "Other riders are going well also such as Moncouti and Casar. "The course in Athens will be very selective because the hill will be climbed 17 times so it was best for us to select riders capable of getting into breakaways and of going right to the finish." Moreau and Brochard have been selected to represent France in the time trial.
