Pedro's Critical Mass multi tool

It's finally happened - someone managed to engineer a carbon fibre gizmo small enough for your back pocket, but versatile enough to keep your ride a happy rolling one.

It's finally happened - someone managed to engineer a carbon fibre gizmo small enough for your back pocket, but versatile enough to keep your ride a happy rolling one. The Pedro's Critical Mass carbon and titanium multi tool is a minimalist's dream.

The Critical Mass has six basic tools (2/3/4/5/6mm Allen keys and a flat blade screwdriver), weighing just 76g, thanks to its compressed molded carbon fiber plates and 6/4 titanium hardware.

Verdict
If you've grown accustomed to a Swiss Army-style multi tool, the Critical Mass may not inspire confidence on long rides. But if your seat or back pack already includes a separate chain tool, spoke wrench, tire levers and spare tube, what's the harm in lightening the load a tad? Bling has its price, but bling gets noticed, and my Critical Mass has garnered much attention every time I've stopped to tweak my saddle height or turn out a derailleur set screw. Tempt fate and go light next time.

Price: $79US. Visit www.pedros.com.
