According to a statement released by the hospital, Pichon has been "resuscitated after having undergone several surgical interventions". The 30-year-old Frenchman suffered severe head injuries in the crash, including a blood clot in his brain, which still needs further examination. At the request of Pichon's family, the statement was brief, but did add that the rider's life did not appear to be in danger. In his medical report at the end of Wednesday's stage, Dauphin doctor Grard Porte said that Pichon had suffered "facial trauma with several fractures, notably of the jaw, teeth and eye-socket, a complex fracture of the left shoulder, an open fracture of the right tibia and a fracture of the left collar-bone."
