Recently crowned Portuguese road champion Pedro Lopes is facing the loss of his title after failing
PICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE Portuguese road champion Pedro Lopes has been provisionally suspended by his federation after giving a positive test for a corticoid. The test was undertaken on the day Lopes won the Portuguese national title at the end of June, and the positive result could lead to Lopes being stripped of the title as well as facing a ban of between six months and two years. Portuguese federation president Artur Lopes has acknowledged that his namesake's positive test came about because of a failure to deliver the necessary forms indicating use of a permitted anti-inflammatory treatment. Lopes' LA Pecol team withdrew him from their proposed line-up for the ongoing Tour of Portugal before that race started last Thursday.
