RAF cyclists to cross America for charity

Sergeant Jason Lewis and Warrant Officer Nick Styles of the RAF are planning to cycle 3,181 miles across America, coast-to-coast, in order to raise money for the charity ‘Help for Heroes’.

They will begin their epic journey in May 2009 at Santa Monica Pier, California and cross the continental United States, finishing 46 days later at Ground Zero, New York City.

What makes this so unique and challenging is that Sergeant Lewis isn’t a cyclist – in fact, prior to his training, he was extremely inexperienced. But he’s not daunted by the average 90 miles a day he’ll need to cover in order to complete the challenge.

Sergeant Lewis decided to undertake this venture because he was injured during his squadron's last deployment to Afghanistan – as a result he can no longer contribute on the battlefield, so he and his team have turned their energies to supporting those who can.
