Ride north Cumbria’s scenic sportive

By BikeRadar

The entry list is now open for north Cumbria’s challenging cyclo-sportive, the Cumberland Challenge. Organised by Carlisle's Border City Wheelers Cycling Club, the event is expected to attract cyclists from across the country but entries are limited to 850 riders .

Mike Glaister, co-organiser said: “Last year’s event attracted over 800 cyclists and raised over £9,000 for local charities.  It is expected that demand will be even greater this year.”

This year’s ride will take place on Sunday, August 31 and the entry fee is £20.  The 105 mile cyclo- sportive traces a figure of eight around the North Pennines taking in the climb of Hartside before heading back to Brampton and then alongside Hadrian's Wall and onwards for a brief incursion into Scotland before finally returning to Brampton. It will be a challenging ride with 2900m of climbing.
