Plea bargain expected by alleged baseball bat attacker (Bike Radar)

Bryce Barker is facing charges of felony menacing, harassment and criminal mischief after he allegedly attacked a group of cyclist with an aluminum baseball last month in Berthoud, Colorado.

He is scheduled for a second appearance in court on 24 September where he is expected to enter a plea bargain, under the guidance of his attorney Timothy O’Keefe.

Barker is alleged to have abruptly stopped his Pontiac GT in front of three cyclists in Larimer County on the afternoon of July 18. He also allegedly used the baseball bat to damage Joe Stevens Trek Madone.

“He let out this scream and he beat on my bike on the ground a couple times,” Stevens said in the Coloradoan. “Then he made stabbing motions at me with the bat, calling me obscenities. Then he got in his car and took off. It was pretty crazy.”

According to the Coloradoan story, Sheriff deputies described the incident, stating that: “A young white male exited the vehicle … with a small aluminum T-ball bat in his hand and made aggressive gestures and movements toward Stevens.”

“As Barker attempted to swing at Stevens, Stevens picked up his bicycle to defend himself, and the baseball bat hit his bike. Stevens states that he then threw the bike to the ground to gain more distance between he and Barker, and Barker then struck the bicycle lying on the ground two more times.”

Barker told deputies that he was acting in self defense against the cyclists who he says initiated the confrontation.

"The first guy picked up his bike and threw it into the side of my car,” Barker said in a written statement to the police. “Two more cyclists stopped and the bike thrower said, 'Good, now we have enough people to fight with.”
