Route of the week: Tour of Florida
There are over 27,000 routes in our Routes section and every week we'll be highlighting one that catches our eye - whether it's a short leisurely off road jaunt for the family or a ten day on-road trek, we want to see your routes. If you see a particularly noteworthy site, please let us know.
This week our attention has been drawn to a mammoth loop in Florida, created by "teacherbill". At 1845 miles it takes in Jacksonville, Palm Bay, Fort Lauderdale, Naples, Tampa and Pensacola.
As to be expected from a ride in Florida, it hasn't got much climbing [a total of 1709ft] but it's a fair slog. If you're planning on doing this route we'd recommend some hefty hydration packs - with an average temperature of 70 degrees and humidity that would challenge even the most ardent sunseeker, it's likely to be a warm ride. Oh, and watch out for the hurricane season (June - November).
If you want to upload one of your own routes, nip over to bikely.com now. It's easy. Either draw your route directly onto the map or upload a .gpx file from your GPS device. We'll also look out for routes with interesting notes attached to them so get out there, get riding and show us your routes!

I'm an Ex-pat living in Daytona Beach beach, and after 15 years riding and racing in good old Blighty, trying to do this pretty any time throughout the year could be bad. I got here about 15 years ago and unless you've lived and rode here for a long time the heat and humidity could wipe you out the first day. It was 110 degrees here today and you would need a team car to help you get anywhere on a bike right now. That and the red lights you'd hit through every town on this route would drive ya flippin' crazy!! Wouldn't be too bad in the winter though, that's if we ever get one again!!
