History seems to be repeating itself for the Minneapolis-based company. In 2009, they recalled 8,600 of the same stems after reports of breakages.
This time only one incident has been reported – which, according to the Associated Press, resulted in minor injuries – but Salsa are erring on the side of caution.
The affected models are CroMoto SUL threadless (1-1/8in headset, 25.4mm and 26mm bar diameter) and quill (1in, 26mm) stems sold after 1 April 2010. Both have a hash mark on the interior of the handlebar clamp. Anyone with one of the products is urged to contact the bike shop they bought if from for a free inspection and a free replacement if necessary.
