Wearing a beaming smile by the Discovery Channel bus this morning was the birdlike Sheryl Crow. The diminutive singer is now almost as sought out by the
Tour press corps as her famous partner, as sometimes she seems to be more accessible.

That may be a cleverly thought through ploy to deflect attention from Lance Armstrong, who rarely appears outside his team's luxury bus until the last possible moment before the stage start. While he relaxes inside the bus and readies himself for the stage, his partner is often the centre of attention outside the bus.

In Grenoble this morning, 'la Crow' patiently chatted to the media and signed autographs. "This year is a little bit different," she said of her second Tour experience.

"Last year, there was a lot of pressure because Lance was trying to make history and he wasn't sure if it would be his last race. They were also trying for sponsorship so there was a lot of pressure."

And as for this year, Ms Crow had few doubts: "He wants to go out in yellow, and I also definitely think that he loves this race very much, and will definitely miss the French and miss the guys he's competed with and against, for years and years. So, it's a very special race."

The Grammy award winner also pointed out a key element to the champion's motivation to take a seventh successive win. "Lance's children will come to Europe for the end of the race and we will spend time with them in Paris. And I think he will be in yellow."
