Shimano's new drivetrains at BikeRadar Live 2010

Revised versions of Shimano's Deore XT and SLX groupsets will be on show at BikeRadar Live (Jonny Gawler)
Shimano will have a huge expo area at BikeRadar Live this summer where visitors can try out their latest technology – including new versions of their groupsets.
Shimano will be at the show courtesy of UK distributors Madison, who have also hinted about previewing some other new products, to be confirmed nearer the event.
Madison will have their own 'village' within the festival where products from major brands including Commencal, Cervelo, Genesis, Saracen and Ridgeback can be seen and demoed.
They'll also be bringing along the Animal Commencal team of Dan, Gee and Rachel Atherton – who'll be looking to clean up in the racing after Gee's win in the Mountain Biking UK Eliminator dual slalom last year – and sponsoring the bike lock-up area with Kryptonite locks.
Madison didn't exhibit at the event in 2009 but marketing director Will Fripp checked it out and was so impressed that he was determined to attend this year. "We're really excited about BikeRadar Live and think it promises to be a ‘must attend’ cycling event in this year’s calendar," he said.
"We'll be there in force with expo and test bikes from Shimano, Genesis, Cervelo, Commencal, Saracen and Ridgeback as well as a general expo zone showing a selection of products from within the Madison portfolio of brands like Garmin, Giro, Bell, Kryptonite, Elite, Blackburn, DT Swiss and Park Tool – the list goes on!"

"both groups have been updated to include a new 'Dyna-Sys drivetrain system' that should bring Shimano up to speed with rivals SRAM"
Read: 'this is definitive confirmation that they are 10 speed'.

could you break it down into layman's terms what bits and pieces of sram mtb groupset(s) that are way better than shimano?

vmgscot, check the Weight Weenies thread, there's part specs for all 3 groupsets.
I'm also interested to know how SRAM is better... I've got one bike with a mix, and one which is totally SRAM, but frankly they're both as good as each other!

im actually really looking forward to the ten speed revolution, the battle between shimano and sram has been pretty quiet recently imo, but now sram are full xx style groupsets across the range (well probably) shimano are really having to work to keep up, cant wait to test them to see who does the best job, one of the perks of working in my LBS is ill be one of the first to try it all :D

jenine, what experience, if any, do you have with shimano and sram. everyone i know who has tried both likes their sram alot more. it is also much lighter.

Prefer Shimano for the shifter action. I've used both extensively, plenty enough to get used to each. Other than that, nothing between them to speak of I reckon.

I prefer Sramano shifters and Shimram mechs
FFS are people still saying ones better than the other they both work brilliantly I can remember downtube friction shifters that took forever to shift. Now they were bad we have forgotten what bad shifting feels like

Probably the same Jenine who had such insightful remarks about the Fujin SL II, a bike she never saw irl.
10-speed on an MTB without exact actuation will be fun...

Prefer SRAM MTB groupsets from X5 upwards, but at the moment, Shimano rule the roost on the budget (alivio/acera) stuff.
Having ridden everything from Shimano Exage through Suntour XC pro through the old Campag MTB groupsets and X-ray Gripshift, XT Dual Control (basically most systems since 1988), I find my current X0/Hammerschmidt set up provides the slickest, most reliable shifting I've experienced in all conditions.

i have xo on one bike & xtr on another, i like both systems & both have there benefits, i think what people are saying is that sram have been first to throw their hat in the 10 speed ring, oh & is that the same Jenine that said i should get 'knocked off my bike'' for buying a santa cruz blur xc carbon because it was made in china? ABSOLUTE PRAT springs to mind.
