CSC have announced their nine-rider line-up for the Vuelta a Espa¤a, where Spaniard Carlos Sastre will be the leader. Set to join the procycling columnist in the race are Christian Vande Velde, Jakob Piil, Nicki Sorensen, Manuel Calvente, Linus Gerdemann, Andrea Peron, Giovanni Lombardi and Vladimir Gusev.

"For me, it's the strongest Vuelta team we've ever had," said Kim Andersen, who will be CSC's DS at the race, assisted by Tristan Hoffman. "It's a good team with lots of diversity. Of course it's Carlos we have the highest ambitions for in the overall standings and everything is pointing towards him having found the form for yet another great stage race. He can climb with the best of them and has furthermore developed his skills in the time trials making him hard to compete with. We'll provide good back up for him and at the same time we have a string of very motivated riders, who have the potential to take some stages along the way."

- Liquigas-Bianchi's Stefano Garzelli ended a winning drought that has lasted more than a year when he took Tuesday's Tre Valli Varesine semi-classic. Garzellis had not won since last year's Giro d'Italia. After a first selection on the Demenza climb, the decisive action took place on the final ascent towards Campione d'Italia. The race ended with a final sprint of eight pacesetters, in which Garzelli beat Tour de France stage winner Lorenzo Bernucci and Damiano Cunego. "I have to thank the whole team that has worked in an excellent way," said Garzelli. "I dedicate this win to my mother who is born here in Campione d'Italia, and to all my family."
