The regional government in Galicia has confirmed that next year's Vuelta will start in the city of Vigo. It had long been known that the race would start in Spain's north-western region, but there had been some debate about exactly where the exact starting point would be. Vigo has been chosen because it provides both the logistical and communications needs demanded by such a large sporting event. Vigo will host the Vuelta prologue, while two further stages will take place in Galicia, with further details made known when the full route is announced in December.

- US national champion George Hincapie may have pulled the curtain down on his season, but the USA has still been able to announce a strong team for the world road championship in Salzburg a week on Sunday. The team comprises Chris Baldwin (Toyota-United), Chris Horner (Saunier Duval), Tyler Farrar (Cofidis), Patrick McCarty (Phonak), Danny Pate (TIAA-CREF), Fred Rodriguez (Davitamon-Lotto), Jackson Stewart (Kodakgallery.com), Guido Trenti (Quick Step) and Christian Vande Velde (CSC). Baldwin and Dave Zabriskie (CSC) are set to line up in the world time trial championship a week on Thursday.

- Australia has also announced its Worlds selections. Michael Rogers will, of course, defend his world time trial championship for the third time, and will be joined by Ben Day and Bradley McGee. McGee and Rogers also feature in the road team, which is completed by Cadel Evans, Nick Gates, Simon Gerrans, Mathew Hayman, Robbie McEwen, Stuart O'Grady and Matt White.

Kathy Watt and Oenone Wood have been selected for the women's time trial event, with Wood also making the road team alongside Katherine Bates, Natalie Bates, Olivia Gollan, Helen Kelly and Emma Rickards.
