PIC BY TDWSPORT.COM Skil, one of the great names in professional cycling in the 1980s, has joined with Francesco Moser in backing a Dutch pro team that will be led by former TVM, Bankgiroloterij and Chocolade Jacques rider Bart Voskamp. Known as the Skil-Moser Pro Cycling Team, the outfit is aiming to ride some of the major events on the European continental calendar. Power tools manufacturer Skil was best known for its alliances with Kas and Sem. Among the great names who rode in the Skil jersey were Gerrie Knetemann and Sean Kelly. "With this new, young and enthusiastic team we intend to reach for the same highlights as in the early 1980s," said Skil president Gerhard Kobesen. As well as Voskamp, the team will also include Bert Hiemstra and Peter Mazur, and Skil will also sponsor the Moser-AH-Trentino U23 Continental team, who will be prepared for careers as future professionals. Former Dutch time trial champion Voskamp offers a very experienced head to the team. "I'm setting myself the goal of lifting this team to a higher level. With the experience I have, I will be fulfilling the role that lies between the management and the riders as team captain. But that will not stop me from adding to my list of victories," said Voskamp. Alongside Dutchmen, Belgians and a German, no fewer than four strong Polish riders have been included in the team: Mazur, best young rider at the Tour of Poland last year, Polish road champion Marek Wesoly, sprinter Dariusz Rudnicki and Arkadiusz Wojtas. Skil's love of cycling began more than 20 years ago. In 1984 the pro team Skil-Reydel started with riders such as Jean Habets, Frderic Vichot and Kelly. Their victories included Lige-Bastogne-Lige, Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of the Med. More details on the team can be found at www.skil-moser.com and www.teammoser-ah.nl
