Fassa Bortolo also enjoyed high-profile success on the other side of Europe, as Kim Kirchen won the Tour of Poland. The Luxemburger won the short road stage on Sunday morning to take the lead from Pieter Weening, then finished close enough to the young Dutchman in this afternoon's 19km time trial to win by five seconds.

The time trial was won by Weening's team-mate Thomas Dekker, who finished eight seconds ahead of Bobby Julich, who has maintained great form right through this season, which has arguably been the best of his career.
