Fire wrecked the premises of leading British bike distributors RJ Chicken and Sons last night destroying the company's warehouse and offices and an as yet unknown quantity of stock. Fifty firemen battled for 10 hours to bring the blaze under control but the warehouse and its contents were completely ruined. Police have arrested a man suspected of starting the blaze.
RJ Chicken and Sons is sole UK distributor of bike brands Time and Cinelli and also distributes its own brand Tifosi bikes. Adidas Campagnolo, Selle Italia and Mavic are amongst the leading kit and component brands in its portfolio. It's not clear yet how the fire will affect people who have bikes or kit on order with Chicken via their local bike shop, these days distributors try to avoid carrying too much stock of high value items like bikes. As soon as we have any details from the company we will update you.
In the meantime RJ Chicken has issued this statement to its customers in the UK bike trade:
"We will be out of communication for a few days and request the trade to be as patient as possible. We will have further information on the resumption of lines of communication early next week."
