Team Milram boosted by Focus, 3T partnership

3T also announces Garmin-Chipotle link

Focus is to join forces with 3T to provide Team Milram with its race bikes for 2009 and 2010.

The team bikes Focus will supply will all feature the 3T FUNDA fork. Focus will also integrate the 3T fork into its top-end retail bikes.

Fabian Cancellara, Carlos Sastre and their team-mates rode the aerodynamic, all-composite FUNDA fork to great success in the 2008 season, winning the Tour de France and several medals at the Beijing Olympics.

“For the first time in the history of Focus we are entering the ‘premier league’ in cycling. It’s a great step for us and a logical move – Focus has been strongly linked to racing from the beginning,” said Herwig Reus, head of marketing at Focus.

“We’re working with a few other high-end quality component designers to build a world-class competition bike. Our product management had the go-ahead to specify whatever components were needed to aim for the very best-performing bike.”

Welcoming the new agreement, René Wiertz, CEO of 3T, said: “We’re well aware of how important this project to Focus is and we’re confident that our composite fork will help them realise their goals.

“We’re also looking forward to sharing some of our Formula 1-derived expertise in composites engineering with our counterparts within the Derby group for the next projects.”

3T has also entered into a sponsorship agreement with Slipstream Sports, owner of Team Garmin-Chipotle presented by H3O, for the 2009 season and beyond.

3T will provide components for Team Garmin-Chipotle bikes for three years, and in return will have its logo prominently featured on the team’s apparel.

3T will also actively support and participate in the team’s mission: to compete and win while setting the standard for ethical sporting.

Team Garmin-Chipotle has had great success in the 2008 season, winning the team classification at the Tour of California and most recently holding off very stiff opposition at the Tour of Missouri to put Christian Vande Velde (who finished fifth in the 2008 Tour de France) at the top of the podium.

Other team members include American national time-trial champion David Zabriskie, Irish national road champion Dan Martin, and New Zealand national road champion Julian Dean.

“Our riders are pleased that 3T is a new sponsor because they know that 3T’s technology is the best in the business,” said Slipstream Sports president Matt Johnson.
