PICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE Olympic time trial bronze medallist Karin Thuerig won this afternoon's world time trial championships title race with a devastating display of riding that left his closest rivals almost a minute behind her. The Swiss woman, off next to last, was significantly quicker than everyone who had gone before her at the first time check, and just kept increasing her advantage from there on in to secure her first world title. Germany's Judith Arndt took second place, a massive 51 seconds down on Thuerig, with Russia's Zoulfia Zabirova another five seconds back in third. Defending champion Joane Somarriba of Spain was fourth. 1 Karin Thrig (Switzerland) 24km in 30.53 (47.23kph) 2 Judith Arndt (Germany) 0.51 3 Zoulfia Zabirova (Russia) 0.56 4 Joane Somarriba (Spain) 1.15 5 Edita Pucinskaite (Lithuania) 1.32 6 Mirjam Melchers (Holland) 1.41 7 Christine Thorburn (USA) 1.43 8 Priska Doppmann (Switzerland) 1.54 9 Oenone Wood (Australia) 2.07 10 Tatiana Guderzo (Italy) 2.11
