While Fassa Bortolo team manager Giancarlo Ferretti struggles to find a new sponsor for his team, his riders continue to be linked with other squads. The latest is Fabian Cancellara, who made a late bid for victory on stage three into Tours, and is, according to the Belgian press, being courted by both Quick Step and Discovery Channel.
- Czech rider Ondrej Sosenka's Acqua e Sapone team have announced that the 29 year old is set to make an attempt on Chris Boardman's world hour record in Moscow on July 19. Boardman's record mark on a traditional bike is 49.441km and was set at Manchester in 2000.
- Euskaltel will be the first squad down the team time trial start ramp in Tours at 2.20 (local time) this afternoon. They will be followed by Lampre-Caffita (2.25), Ag2r (2.30), Saunier Duval (2.35), Cofidis (2.40), Davitamon-Lotto (2.45), Liquigas-Bianchi (2.50), Bouygues Telecom (2.55), Franaise des Jeux (3.00), Domina Vacanze (3.05), Quick Step (3.10), Rabobank (3.15), Illes Balears (3.20), Crdit Agricole (3.25), Liberty Seguros (3.30), Fassa Bortolo (3.35), T-Mobile (3.40), Gerolsteiner (3.45), Phonak (3.50), Discovery Channel (3.55) and CSC (4.00).
The Tour organisation have stuck with the formula they introduced last year to decide times for each team based on their finishing position. The formula was introduced to stop some teams losing several minutes in the TTT and effectively putting some riders out of the running for overall prizes. Consequently, the second team to finish will be given a time no more than 20 seconds slower than the winning team's mark, and the time gaps continue as follows:
30 seconds (3rd), 40 seconds (4th), 50 seconds (5th), 1-00 (6th), 1-10 (7th), 1-20 (8th), 1-30 (9th), 1-40 (10th), 1-50 (11th), 2-00 (12th), 2-10 (13th), 2-20 (14th), 2-30 (15th), 2-35 (16th), 2-40 (17th), 2-45 (18th), 2-50 (19th), 2-55 (20th) and 3-00 (21st).
There is some flexibility built into the system in as much as if the second team home finishes just five seconds down on the winners, then they are allocated that time rather the maximum loss of 20 seconds.
