Good day:

Juan Antonio Flecha:
24 hours after Lazlo Bodrogi accused him of riding like a "muppet" (and that's a polite translation), Flecha slid to the tarmac in Nancy. So why is that good? Because five seconds later he was up on his feet, bellowing an inspirational 'Go! Go! Go!' to Fassa's Lorenzo Bernucci on his radio, as his team-mate soloed to victory.

Christophe Mengin: Some cojones at last from the French riders came in the shape of Mengin's spirited no-holds-barred attack. Sure, Mengin crashed within sight of the finish line, after sliding out on the final bend, but his grit was an example to his compatriots. Let's see if any of them can pick up the baton....

Alexandre Vinokourov: Showed his colours and fired a warning shot to Discovery Channel in the final two kilometres of today's stage. If he had not had to pull his foot out of the pedal, as the unlucky Mengin fell in front of him, the Kazakh might have won the stage and that would have stirred things up a lot more.

Bad day:

...still to come - Wifi permitting...
