The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Trek and Cannondale, has issued a voluntary recall of about 17,500 bikes specced with JD suspension forks, made in Taiwan.
Different circumstances apply for European customers; The only bikes affected in the UK are 7500E and 7700E within the serial numbers affected, and all stock has been corrected. Any consumer who has not yet returned their bike to the dealer from whom they bought it, should do so as soon as possible to have a retro upgrade fitted.
In the US, the recalled bicycle's fork can lose alignment, causing the front wheel to turn unexpectedly. This can cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle and crash. There have been four reports of misaligned forks on certain Trek models. No injuries have been reported from either company.
The 16,000-bike Trek recall involves model year 2009 Trek 7300, 7300WSD, and 7500 bicycles. The model name is printed on the bicycle's frame. The bicycles have a suspension fork with the words "Bontrager SPA" printed on them.
These bikes were sold at Trek bicycle dealers nationwide from August 2008 through April 2009 for between US$640 and $940.
For Cannondale, the recall includes 1,500 2008 Cannondale Adventure 2, Adventure 3, Adventure 2 Feminine and Adventure 3 Feminine bicycles. The bicycle models have suspension forks with "Cannondale AT35 Adventure Trail" printed on them. Bicycles equipped with the Rock Shox i-Ride fork are not included in the recall.
These bikes were sold at Cannondale bicycle dealers from February 2009 through April 2009 for between US$600 and $800.
