The Shorter Rochford trio of Charles McCulloch, Mark Holton and Adam Duggleby were crowned national team time trial champions after a convincing performance in the 2009 title race in Cambridgeshire on Sunday.
The three clocked 1:13:29 to win the event by more than two minutes on a 38.65-mile course at Sawston which used large parts of the A14 and A11.
With the pre-race favourites In Gear not starting because of Sean Yates’s illness and the Madison.co.uk team now having lost the services of Tony Gibb, the title was wide open.
Second spot went to the Arctic Premier RT team of Darren Barclay, Danny Axford and David McGaw with 1:15:56, while 43 seconds further back was the I-Ride trio of Matt Bottrill, Geoff Platts and Julian Ramsbottom.
Golla continues good form at Hemel Hempstead
After his first and second places in the previous weekend’s Newbury Road Club 10 and 25-mile event, Sigma Sport RT’s Steve Golla continued his good form with victory in the Hemel Hempstead CC 25 on Sunday.
Golla clocked 53:03 to win by almost a minute-and-a-half over the F13 course at Launton in Oxfordshire, while Team Milton Keynes’ Jason Gurney was second with 54:28 and American Jesse Elzinga (Beeline Bicycles RT) third, another 1:10 off the pace.
Strong lead for Skellern in Cheshire
Neil Skellern (Congleton CC) won the
The fastest man on paper, David Crawley (Fibrax Wrexham RC), had to settle for third place on the day, his time of 4:12:52 being around a minute-and-a-half slower than runner-up Daniel Mathers (Seamons CC).
Mathers was joined in the winning team line-up by Ian Udall and Robin Haigh, with Seamons CC placing an impressive three riders in the top eight finishers.
Victory for Morgan at Kirkby
Heavy rain before the event put off several riders, but those who persevered were rewarded with dry and warm conditions for the Phoenix CC Aintree 25 – none more so than John Morgan.
The Preston Wheelers rider clocked 53:53 to win by 1:27 from Steve Ludden (St Helens CRC), while scratch man and Ludden’s team-mate Pete Ware had to settle for third spot in the event, which took riders from Kirkby up the Rainford bypass to Ormskirk and back.
With Ian Sutcliffe completing the trio, St Helens CRC also won the team prize on the back of Ludden and Ware’s good rides.
Clovis pushes Askwith hard in Lincolnshire
Bridlington CC’s Andy Askwith won the Scunthorpe Road Club 50 at Limber in
Narrow win for Powe in Cumbria
Rowe clocked 53:04 to win by nine seconds from Jones, while veteran Cook was 26 seconds off Powe’s pace.
Dangerfield shows his strength in Derbyshire
Six times the national champion at the distance, Stuart Dangerfield (Shorter Rochford) was a convincing winner of the Belper BC 25-mile event on the Etwall course in Derbyshire.
Dangerfield, returning to form after a spell of illness which saw him a non-starter in some of this year’s national title races, clocked 48:52 to win comfortably ahead of Calder Clarion’s Ian Cooke, who was 1:33 behind.
Early leader Joel Wainman held on for third with 50:31, seven seconds ahead of Leicestershire Road Club’s Matt Sinclair.
