As one team definitely counts themselves out of the hunt for Alejandro Valverde's signature, anotherPICTURE BY LAVUELTA.COM Almost as drawn out as the negotiations for the Pro Tour is the speculation about the future destination of Alejandro Valverde. For once, there is something definite to report, as Rabobank have counted themselves out of the running for the Spaniard's signature according to Dutch press reports. Having signed Denis Menchov, the Dutch team are satisfied with their major tour line-up for next season. Despite recent reports that linked the Murcian rider with Illes Balears and Liberty Seguros, this morning's edition of Marca states that Valverde's most likely destination if he does leave CV-Kelme is Saunier Duval. According to Marca, Saunier are close to agreeing a co-sponsorship deal with a Murcian construction company, which would fund Valverde's move. The Murcian regional government is also said to be backing the deal. As with other teams interested in signing Valverde, Saunier's biggest dilemma is how to pay - or, preferably, avoiding paying - the two million euro rescission clause in Valverde's contract with CV-Kelme. However, if Marca's information is accurate and Valverde does join Saunier Duval, it would make the Spanish team one of the main players in the sport. With Joseba Beloki already signed up as their team leader for the major tours, Valverde would provide another strong option. As for CV-Kelme, their link-up with the Elche football team is moving forwards slowly, with Marca reporting that several riders and members of the backroom staff on the current roster have now had their contracts renewed for next year.
