Although some details still have to be decided, it is now almost certain that Alejandro Valverde wilPICTURE BY LAVUELTA.COM It's almost over. Alejandro Valverde has agreed a pre-contract deal to join the Illes Balears team next season. Valverde's current boss at CV-Kelme, Jos Luis Aznar, released a statement on Tuesday evening announcing that the much-coveted Murcian rider will be moving on, although the final details of the transfer have still to be fixed. As reported in a story yesterday, Aznar acknowledged that CV-Kelme are negotiating with Illes Balears on the sum required to buy Valverde out of his current deal, which was due to run until 2007. "Negotiations over the clause are not completed yet, but are continuing with much goodwill on both sides," said Aznar. "The clause demands a payment of two million euros, but we are ready to negotiate. However, I do want to make clear that it is not certain that they have offered us 1.5 million for him. We have to be very cautious until the deal is completed," Aznar added. Aznar once again expressed his disappointment with disparaging comments made by Valverde's personal representative, Gorka Arrinda, and denied previous reports that CV-Kelme had been negotiating with Liberty Seguros without Valverde's knowledge. "We only had a conversation in which they told us they would be interested in signing Valverde if we decided to release the rider because he wanted to move on. I want to make clear that we would not be transferring Alejandro if he did not want to leave." The Valverde deal is also expected to include his close friend and fellow Murcian rider Jos Cayetano Julia. Valverde also wants to take Jos Luis Martinez with him from CV-Kelme, but Illes Balears are reported to be against this idea.
