Alejandro Valverde keeps his winning run going in Burgos as Francisco Mancebo abandons with a broken
PICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE Despite having said before today's second stage of the Tour of Burgos that he was not going to endanger himself by taking part in a possible bunch sprint at the end of the stage, it seems Alejandro Valverde simply could not resist. After Luis Leon Sanchez had been caught just a few hundred metres from the finish by the bunch, Valverde it was who emerged from the pack to take the stage in Aranda del Duero. His second victory in consecutive days once again demonstrated his all-round talent. After winning at the top of the first-category climb to take the lead on day one, here he was taking an uphill sprint and leaving some quick riders trailing in his wake. The stage was not so kind to Paco Mancebo, Spain's leading rider at the Tour de France, where he finished sixth, and wearing number 1 in Burgos because of the absence of last year's winner Pablo Lastras from the Illes Balears team. Mancebo fell 25 kilometres from home and was later diagnosed with a fractured wrist. He will not start tomorrow.
