Welcome to BikeRadar's bike maintenance video series, produced in conjunction with Unior tools, British Cycling and Cycling Plus.

In part three, former Team GB pro mechanic Spike Taylor – who now runs Pro Tool School bike mechanic courses – shows you how to fix a broken chain. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it can mean the end of your ride. None of us wants that, and as the video shows, it's actually no more onerous than fixing a flat tyre.

Over the next few months we'll be featuring more mechanic's tips, which are also part of a new cycle maintenance DVD that'll be available with an upcoming issue of Cycling Plus.
