Vote and win with the What Mountain Bike Awards!

Vote in the What Mountain Bike Awards and you could win a Focus Fat Boy

What Mountain Bike magazine are gearing up for the big event in their bike testing calendar: the 2008 Bike of the Year Awards issue, set to hit the shelves on June 25.

Held annually for the past seven years, the What Mountain Bike Awards are the longest-running mountain bike awards out there, highlighting and rewarding only the very best bikes and product available to buy. This year, the team will be doing things a little differently and, for the first time ever, they're asking for your votes.

Three of the awards will be decided by you, the readers. Those awards are: UK Trail Centre of the Year, UK Event of the Year, and UK Unsung Hero of the Year. The team want to know who or what you think should win (see below for all the details on how to vote, or click through to the voting page.) Everyone who votes will automatically be entered into a draw to win What Mountain Bike's current favourite sub-£500 hardtail, a Focus Fat Boy, courtesy of www.wiggle.co.uk.

This could be yours!

Expert opinions

What Mountain Bike's team of expert testers have been putting in the miles on the trails in every weather, testing, cogitating and debating the merits of their favourite bikes. With their new Buyer’s Guide (starting on page 153) highlighting what they currently view as the top bikes and product in each category, the new Awards will be headlined by the Bike of the Year winner, chosen from a shortlist of the very best bikes. The winner will follow in the illustrious footsteps of previous champions, including the GT i-Drive 5 2.0 (2007), Giant Anthem (2006), Scott Genius MC20 (2005), Giant XTC (2004), Specialized Enduro (2003) and Marin Rock Springs (2002).

What Mountain Bike will also be revealing the number one Product of the Year that will make your ride experience better – guaranteed. They'll also name their Innovation of the Year: the product or bike that promises to blaze a new path into the future or that simply solves a problem with genius simplicity, prompting sighs of, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’ around the globe.

Best of the best

There’ll be all this plus individual awards for each and every bike and major component category, individual team picks, and more besides that we’re keeping under hats for now. The result will be the most thorough and trustworthy Awards you can get your hands on.

B) Event of the Year

What was the best mountain biking event you’ve taken part in during the past 12 months: which one offered the best mix of riding, facilities and atmosphere? It could be a 24-hour race, a demo day, a marathon, stage race or a festival.

C) Unsung Hero of the Year

This is your chance to tell us about the behind-the-scenes heroes of mountain biking. From trail builders, event organisers and forest rangers to bike shop staff and coaches, there are hundreds of people out there supporting mountain bikers and inspiring others to take up the sport.
