Vote for Peaty in BBC Sports Personality of the Year

Nominations open now

This year, Steve Peat became only the second rider ever to win three World Cup downhill series titles. That's an achievement that Mike Jardine, organiser of next year's mountain bike world championship in Fort William reckons puts Peaty in the running for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. Handily, nominations for the award are open to everyone this year.

"British mountain biking is in a fantastic position right now," said Jardine, "with some incredible performances from our top riders, a huge increase in participation at home and some of the best events on the planet. We think it's time for the enormous mountain bike community to make a noise and get Steve onto the BBC Sports Personality shortlist."

For the first time, viewers of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show (10 December 2006) will be able to vote from a shortlist of 10 contenders. The top 10 for the event will be drawn up using a new nominations voting system that will run until 15 November on the BBC sport website.

To vote online to nominate Peaty, go to the BBC website.

There's quite a head of steam already behind Peaty on the forum too.
