Dave insures his desirable body against breakages...
Dave Wardell's elated state of mind after the Fort William World Cup, where he qualified 14th in front of 20,000 people took rather a hammering at Alpe d'Huez. A breakage messed up his run, but it was the lack of atmosphere and, specifically, the lack of beautiful young women waving their knickers in the air that really brought him down.
"I'm single again, if you know any good women looking for a bad man," says Dave who have never been known to keep a girlfriend long enough to remember her name (some exaggeration here. Ed).
All this insurance of the parts is because Dave is off to the North American rounds of the World Cup at Mt St Anne and Grouse Mountain and booking his place at the next Red Bull Rampage in Arazona.
In the meantime Dave recommends scaffolding as preparation for downhill.
"I'm scraping by on what I'm getting, but you can't expect to travel and have fun and get money really can you?"
Just three years ago you could.
"Just three years ago there were massive crowds at the French World Cups. But I think it's coming up again. Fort William certainly showed everyone how it should be done. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Canadian events go. Atmosphere is what the riders want. That buzz of excitement and expectation makes us fly."
