What Robbie said to RenéClose
Robbie McEwen gives his version of his finishing straight 'chat' with Rene Haselbacher, and feels itSo just what did Robbie McEwen say to Ren Haselbacher as the Gerolsteiner rider lay bleeding after the mass crash in the final kilometre of last Friday's stage to Angers? While Haselbacher's team have made plain their anger with the Australian and are reported to have complained about his behaviour towards their man to the race organisation, it appears that the Lotto-Domo sprinter is unmoved. Asked yesterday, at the finish in Quimper if he regretted the incident, McEwen was unrepentant. "It wasn't that heated," the 32 year old points leader said. "I walked over, the medical staff were there and I was about two or three metres away. I just said to him, 'This was your fault, you've done it again.' And I walked off. That's the end of the story." McEwen was happy to confirm one final query: "And I haven't apologised," he added. According to Haselbacher, the crash was caused when his handlebars snapped. He broke his nose and three ribs and also suffered internal injuries to his liver and kidneys in the 60 kilometres per hour stack-up. McEwen currently leads the green jersey points competition from compatriot Stuart O'Grady by nine points.
