WORLD CUP WEEKENDER GETS UNDER WAY
Thursday, May 25, 2006 11.00pm
Despite the rain, the crowds are arriving, the tension's mounting... and there's still 24 hours to go...
Ok, so it may be raining now, but it'll take a lot more than that this weekend to put a dampener on Fort William - voted the best downhill and 4-Cross events of the Mountain Bike World Cup series four years running.
The forecast's looking better as the weekend progresses though, with sunny patches on Saturday for the 4X and cross country and clearer sky on Sunday for the downhill. The MBUK crew have landed and have wasted no time setting up shop as the crowds start to gather around Fort William. There's already a buzz around Aonach Mor and the Leanachan Forest - and we haven't got anywhere near the 17,000-plus revellers due to turn up this weekend for another fiesta of world-class mountain biking.
To make this weekend even better than usual the organisers are treating it as a final dress rehearsal for the World Championships here in 2007, so expect them to pull out all the stops to make this the best Fort Bill ever...
