Jan Ullrich gave his best indication yet that he is running into form just in time for the Tour de France when he was among the leading protagonists on Thursday's sixth stage of the Tour of Switzerland. The T-Mobile leader was then tipped by former team-mate Erik Zabel to win next month's Tour title.

The Swiss stage was won by Saunier Duval's Koldo Gil, who moved into the overall lead, 34 seconds ahead of Astana's Jrg Jaksche and 54 ahead of Ullrich with a long time trial still to come on Sunday. "To win this race I think I will need an advantage of 1-30 over Ullrich before the final test," said Gil, who won the recent Bicicleta Vasca in fine fashion.

Milram's Zabel believes Ullrich is in good shape to win his second Tour title this year. "Looking at his physical abilities, Ulle is the favourite. He should not be beaten," said Zabel. "With his excellent performance at the Giro d'Italia, you also have to fancy Ivan Basso's chances of winning the Tour."
