The biggest road race of the year, this year's Tour takes a clockwise loop round France, starting in London.

    Distance remaining: -1KM

And that's all from the BikeRadar commentary team today. Join us again tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:45 local time (10:45 BST) for our live coverage of the third stage between Waregem and Compiegne.

  • Distance covered: 168KM

    Distance remaining: -1KM

Cancellara will keep the yellow jersey, although he will have to get his wrist looked at to check whether it wasn't broken in that crash. Tom Boonen will don the green jersey following his second place today. A consolation for not winning the stage, but you can bet he'll try again tomorrow. The Steegmans-Boonen combination is really amazing when it works.

  • Distance covered: 168KM

    Distance remaining: -1KM

    Provisional results:

1 Gert Steegmans (Bel ¦ Quick Step - Innergetic) 03:48:22 2 Tom Boonen (Bel ¦ Quick Step - Innergetic)

Steegmans: "I was just doing the leadout...I looked behind and I saw someone on my wheel, but I wasn't sure if it was Tom. But nobody came around."

Quick.Step will be happy with the 1-2 finish today, but we think the idea was to set up Boonen for the victory.

  • Distance covered: 168KM

    Distance remaining: -1KM

Cancellara comes across the line holding his left hand. Not good for the maillot jaune wearer. Let's hope he's OK for tomorrow. Alexandre Vinokourov was also caught up in the massive crash, but he is across the line. Fred Rodriguez is worse - the American might have broken his collarbone.

  • Distance covered: 168KM

    Distance remaining: -1KM

Boonen has two men leading him out but is challenged... Gert Steegmans leads out Boonen and keeps going...and going... It's a brilliant lead out for Tom Boonen, but it's actually too good and Steegmans wins!!!! Boonen second, then Pozzato.

There's been a bit of confusion as to whether it was Boonen or Steegmans who won, but it was Steegmans.

  • Distance covered: 167KM

    Distance remaining: 0KM

1km to go and it's in dissarray at the front.

Boonen leads out and McEwen is there - he didn't come down.

  • Distance covered: 166KM

    Distance remaining: 1KM

Less than 2km to go and there's a huge crash!! Cancellara is definitely down, as is McEwen. No win for him today. But Cance won't lose any time on GC.

  • Distance covered: 165KM

    Distance remaining: 2KM

3km to go and the break is caught. Liquigas performed the coup-de-grace.

A tricky corner, but everyone makes it around. Milram and Quick.Step start to wind it up.

  • Distance covered: 165KM

    Distance remaining: 2KM

Lampre is now marshalling its forces at the front of the bunch for Napolitano and Bennati. Credit Agricole is up there for Thor, while Gerolsteiner and Quick.Step are struggling for position.
