You have to hand it to Fabian Cancellara and CSC. He is a good rider over a short distance and closed the gap to the break on his own, catching the sprinters napping. A thrilling end to what was rather a long stage.

Here come the sprinters....But Cancellara wins the stage with an incredible move in the last 500m. He not only defends his jersey, but he increases his lead! Zabel was second, then Napolitano and Boonen.

And the maillot jaune is making a bid for the stage win!!!

And Cancellara takes off and bridges the gap!!!!

The peloton hits the cobbles and snakes around the inner streets of Compiegne. In front, the four are playing tactics...
