Tour de France 2009

Live Race Report 11:46

The biggest road race of the year, this year's Tour takes a clockwise loop round France, starting in London.

  • Distance covered: 200KM

    Distance remaining: 0KM

Tom Boonen will have a handy lead in the points classification now, but there's still a long way to Paris.

That was a less eventful stage than yesterday, but as always a good finish. A fine ride by Brad Wiggins but in the end it was to no avail.

We'll be back again tomorrow at 12:00 local time (11:00 BST) with live coverage of the seventh stage of the Tour de France, between Bourg-en-Bresse and Le Grand Bornand.

  • Distance covered: 200KM

    Distance remaining: 0KM

    Provisional results

1 Tom Boonen (Bel ¦ Quick Step - Innergetic) 05:20:59
2 Oscar Freire (Spa ¦ Rabobank)
3 Erik Zabel (Ger ¦ Team Milram)
4 Sébastien Chavanel (Fra ¦ Francaise Des Jeux)
5 Thor Hushovd (Nor ¦ Credit Agricole)

    General classification after stage 6

1 Fabian Cancellara (Swi ¦ Team CSC)

  • Distance covered: 200KM

    Distance remaining: 0KM

The rush for the line is wild, but it's Tom Boonen who finally wins a stage!!!! Freire second ahead of Zabel, then Chavanel and Hushovd.

Cancellara finishes in the bunch and keeps the yellow jersey.

  • Distance covered: 199KM

    Distance remaining: 1KM

Milram takes over before the final charge to the line, then a Rabobank man hits the front. Steegmans comes past.

  • Distance covered: 198KM

    Distance remaining: 2KM

Quick.Step leads until 2km to go, with Credit Agricole and Milram manouevring behind them. Will it be Boonen, Thor, Zabel, Bennati, Freire...?

  • Distance covered: 197KM

    Distance remaining: 3KM

Now it's Fabian Wegmann driving it on the front. His white German champion's jersey breaking the wind for his teammates. Then Tosatto comes through for a big turn.

  • Distance covered: 196KM

    Distance remaining: 4KM

The bunch goes under 4km to go, all as one. Wiggins is already off the back, totally spent.

  • Distance covered: 195KM

    Distance remaining: 5KM

The road here is two lanes wide and everyone wants to be up front. T-Mobile has a guy in the lead, with a Milram coming through for a turn.

  • Distance covered: 193KM

    Distance remaining: 7KM

The bunch splits around a traffic island as Brad Wiggins is finally swallowed up. He was out there for 191km. Brilliant effort, but now it's up to the sprinters to do their stuff.

  • Distance covered: 192KM

    Distance remaining: 8KM

The sword is hanging above Wiggins' head but it hasn't dropped yet. One more glance behind. Nope, still not there.

The Astana boys are comfortably in the peloton, albeit towards the back.
