Tour de France 2009

Prologue: London - London 8km

Analysis by Jean-François Pescheux, Tour competition director: “This is going to be a prestigious prologue to win given the splendour of the location – eight kilometres of racing right in the heart of London. The riders will pass Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament, and will cross Hyde Park. It’s going to be magnificent. The course is totally flat on wide roads that should mean it’s not very technical at all, which should suit the specialists perfectly, as well as the rouleurs and even the track pursuiters – eight kilometres is twice the distance of the pursuit. I’ll be looking to the British riders Millar and Wiggins, who will be determined to shine on home ground. The city itself, which wants to promote the use of cycling, couldn’t have done so in a better way.”
