California 6: Pagliarini first, Leipheimer in gold

Winner Cavendish penalized by officials

Team High Road's Mark Cavendish outsprinted Luciano André Pagliarini Mendonca (Saunier Duval-Scott) and Juan Jose Haedo (Team CSC) to win the 105-mile Stage 6 of the Amgen Tour of California into Santa Clarita Saturday afternoon, but was soon penalized 20 seconds for holding onto a team car following a late-race crash involving Rock Racing's Mario Cipollini and Freddie Rodriguez.

So, Saunier Duval-Scott racer Pagliarini is given first place on the day, with Haedo bumped up to second. World champion Paolo Bettini (QuickStep) moved to third in Santa Clarita.

Astana's Levi Leipheimer remains in the leader's gold jersey, as the peloton races into Pasadena for the final stage Sunday.
