Home favourite off to a great start in 8km time trial

Swiss champion Fabian Cancellara (Saxo Bank) has won the opening stage of the 73rd Tour de Suisse, a 7.8km time trial from Mauren to Ruggell. 

Cancellara clocked a time of 9'21 for the stage, beating defending Tour de Suisse champion Roman Kreuziger (Liquigas) by 19 seconds. Andreas Klöden (Astana) was third at 22 seconds.
