Route 66 Mobile 8 | $149.99
BikeRadar verdict
"Brings speaking GPS navigation to your mobile"
This phone-based navigation software is not a cycling product per se, and you’ll find it really useful in the car. The same goes for an Ordnance Survey Landranger map, of course, and both will greatly enhance any ride in unknown territory.
You need either a phone with a built-in GPS receiver, or an external Bluetooth receiver. There’s no bar mount, so we listened to the voice navigation with an earpiece and the phone in our pocket.
But there’s more than just navigation. Apart from downloadable, real time, ‘location-based’ information such as traffic, weather, and travel guides, the software contains reams of useful points of interest that can be navigated to, added to your route, or even dialled direct.
You can find a pub, garage, hospital, museum etc., nearby, add it to your route, and then call it to book yourself in.
